whitewash by Michele Elliot

whitewash  2014

found and gifted clothing, cotton thread, mapping pins

variable dimensions

the poetics of cloth are composed of folds, fragments and surfaces of infinite complexity. The fragment bears witness to a broken whole ... beyond fragile boundaries. (1)

Working with collected clothing that has been hand stitched into abstracted forms, this project invites the viewer to consider humanity, displacement and loss, that embodies a particular poignancy in relation to the current plight of asylum seekers.
