marking time, sitting still

still sitting beside my mother as she moved through the veils

 

a sail, a shield, a field, a mirror

 

an accumulation of gesture, of tethering and letting go

 

needle and thread pass through remnants of lain upon sheets and slips and fine muslin

 

a pause, a breath, a remembering
